McCain's VP is.....

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska.

CNBC's John Harwood reports that John McCain has selected Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-styled "hockey mom" who has only been governor for a little over a year, is GOP Presidential candidate John McCain's choice for Vice President, CNBC has learned," he reports.

"According to a Republican strategist, Palin is the nominee, though McCain's campaign has not comfirmed this."

Gotta tip my hat to McCain on this one......he's going after the remaining disaffected women supporters of Hillary Clinton who still haven't warmed up to Obama.

Here's the file on McCain's running mate.

Am I the only person who sees this pick as an insult to Clinton supporters? I can't imagine that they'll vote for McCain because some Barbie Doll is standing by him and smiling pretty.

No, Count, you're not alone. It's absolute tokenism - the presumption that women will vote for a candidate's anatomy over a candidate's policy positions.

No serious Clinton supporter will consider backing someone who is a fan of junk science ("WHAT global warming?"), big oil, creationism in the classroom, and no abortion EVEN in cases of rape and incest. Not to mention who is under investigation herself. I can't see her attracting anyone McCain wasn't going to get anyway, once those stances are more widely known...no "wide stance" pun intended, there.

This is not a well-considered, thoughtful choice. It's a Hail Mary.

And Ralph wouldn't know a "realistic understanding" of any issue if it dressed up as a doughnut and pole-danced for him while singing "Look at me! I'm Realistic Understanding!"
