Apparently, Jimmy Carter made Bush Jr.'s life a living hell.

George W. Bush took a shot at fellow ex-president Jimmy Carter during this morning's closed-door reunion breakfast for Bush-Cheney alums, saying Carter "made my life miserable."

While discussing his future plans, according to Mike Allen, Bush implicitly criticized Carter for offering him unsolicited advice during Bush's presidency.

"I have no desire to see myself on television. I don't want to be a panel of formers instructing the currents on what to do. ... I'm trying to regain a sense of anonymity. I didn't like it when a certain former president -- and it wasn't 41 or 42 -- made my life miserable," Bush said

Too bad, so sad.

OK, this is not only silly, but an example of the non-intellectual bent of the previous administration.

Latimer writes that administration officials objected to giving author J.K. Rowling the Presidential Medal of Freedom because her writing “encouraged witchcraft” (p. 201):

This was the same sort of narrow thinking that led people in the White House to actually object to giving the author J.K. Rowling a presidential medal because the Harry Potter books encouraged witchcraft.

Encouraged witchcraft? That's like saying that the film version of "Live and Let Die" promotes voodoo because it's partially set in New Orleans. Not to mention that Harry Potter is, well, you know, FICTION. As in a made-up story, not a how-to manual.

Say what you will about Obama's policy successes and failures, or his administration's level of commitment to a truly progressive agenda. At least the WH is once again occupied by a group of intelligent people who don't get their information from televangelists, comic books and the residents of Wingnuttia. I doubt many readers of this blog (I don't count you, Ranger) would for a moment wish to step back into the Bush years by comparison.

Mark Noonan outdoes himself

Once this generation is dead - especially this generation of hate-filled leftists - then, and only then, will the full truth about President Bush come out. Certainly, a flawed man. A sinner, as we all are. A man who made mistakes - but a man who always tried to do the right thing and who wasn’t a slave to polls, as Democrats are. I said we’d miss President Bush, and we do - but his legacy is secure, and the world is a better place for him having been President of the United States.

A hundred years will pass, and Dubya's legacy will be the same as it was when he left office - he'll be remembered as the man who, somehow, made Richard Nixon's demons and problems look like Mother-fucking-Teresa compared to Bush and Cheney. I commend Bush's work in Africa, but he's still the worst president in American history, and nothing is going to change that irrefutable truth.

If Bush Jr. hadn't fucked up at his job, dragging America lower and lower under the mud with him, Obama's rise to power wouldn't have been possible. But allow me to fix this statement:

I hate to do this but I am going to stand up for The President. I honestly believe he has never seen an American with problems ever. He has no idea that there are people in America with problems or problems in America. Look at his parents. in 1992 The President’s Father walked into a grocery store pointed at the scanner and said “Wow WTF is that thing?”

In 2005 The President’s Mother watched Katrina coverage on TV and was shocked, shocked, shocked I tell you that America still had poor people.

So Bush hasn’t seen America’s problems. I agree with him. He lives in Bush world where he is immune to America’s problems. And of course he doesn’t give a spit about America’s problems either.

One other thing. Why does this president just have to be the story? He’s all over everywhere. Does he sleep? He just can’t let anybody else have the spotlight. Everything has to be about George W. Bush 24/7.

Uh, Matt: you are aware that under the Clinton Economy, we experienced the creation of 18 million new jobs; unemployment dropped to 4.2% - the lowest rating in peacetime since 1957; we had a balanced budget and a federal surplus? And what's this nonsense about the GOP waging a war on terror? Under the Bush Administration, this country was lied into starting a war of choice, while taking our eyes off of the real perpetrators of 9/11(Osama Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda, and the Taliban ring any bells there?), and destroyed an entire country in five years. Exactly which of these accomplishments would you really want to boast and brag about?

Please don't pin your president's fuck-ups on Congress. It's not the fault of a Democratic Congress that the economy is in a recession and gas prices are going through the roof.

Under the Bush years the following have happened:
-a war sold to the Congress, the American people, and to our armed forces, based on false evidence that Saddam Hussein has Weapons of Mass Destruction. As a result, over 4,000 American troops have been sent to meat grinder, with countless Iraqi civilians killed, their country thrown in disarray, and a civil war re-ignited between two factions of Muslims; not to mention the primary focus taken off finding and hunting down those responsible for the 9/11 attacks and the resurgence of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
-an economy that had a balanced budget and a national surplus under the Clinton Administration, now turned into a national debt, now a recession thanks to Bush's tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% of Americans. Oh and by the way: we owe China billions of dollars.
-the arm of partisanship extends to the Justice Department, firing nine U.S. Attorneys for not being loyal to the president.
-shredding the Constitution (the same one of which he swore on twice to uphold and defend) by passing laws that violate our nations right to privacy without a warrant, and the suspension of a person's right to the writ of habeas corpus, all done in the name of 'protecting the nation safe from the terrorists.'

To be fair, it isn't just Bush's leadership that has failed....it's also Nancy Pelosi's and Harry Reid's leadership that have been widely talked about, but rarely, if ever, seen in the halls of Congress.
