It's that time again where everyone fills out their brackets for the 75th annual NCAA Tournament, from the casual watcher, to the die-hard fan, and everyone in between. Hell, even Presidents get in on the action, such as the case as Obama unveils his picks on who's going to meet in Georgia for the Final Four.

Shut the f*^k up, Ted Nugent!
I've not really made any political statements in the last few months, and this is mostly due to the busy time in my life at the moment. However, I want to keep writing and making observations in the world of politics for BAD, and I will make more of an effort to share my thoughts in a fair, balanced and nuanced way, as I always have. Ok, i'm going to continue to be the young liberal with a sailor's mouth, but I do get points for trying, right?
Anyway, let's get onto it: Unless you've just awaken from a 24-hour coma, you all know that yesterday was the re-inauguration of President Obama. I'll have more of my own thoughts about what I saw tomorrow, but for right now, let's just say not everyone was pleased that he's still the President of the United States. In particular - former rock star, turnedrabid right-wing moron and gun nut, 2nd Amendment defender and conservative commentator Ted Nugent. You see, after President Obama called for an assault weapons ban and for universal background checks on registered gun owners, among other actions taken just last week, many gun enthusiasts and advocates for the 2nd Amendment saw potential reasonable gun laws aimed at preventing more horrific massacres like the one at Newtown, Connecticut as a sign that the federal government was coming for their handguns, hunting rifles, pistols, shotguns, ammo rounds, bullets and magazine clips. If you're familiar with Nugent's views on current events and politics, then you'll know that he explains his position on gun rights in a rational, reasonable way and in no way does he go off the rails and resorts to childish, schoolyard insults and all but threatens the Office of the President of the United States by using incendiary-charged rhetoric like how gun enthusiasts like him need to "fix" the fact that he's President.
Wait a minute.........

The president of the United States goes to the Vietnam Memorial Wall and pretends to honor 58,000 American heroes who died fighting communism and then he hires, appoints and associates with communists. He pretends to pay honor to men who died fighting communism, and then he hangs out with, hires and appoints communists. He is an evil dangerous man who hates America and hates freedom. And we need to fix this as soon as possible.Uh, Ted -- even if you and your ilk did rise up and decided to take up arms against the homeland, you do realize that the President would have the authority to send in soldiers to put an end to the rebellion, then have the remaining survivors tried for treason and more than likely, either end up incarcerated in a federal prison for the rest of their days or face the rope. It's bad enough that this debate has been sullied by the NRA and their ad on using Obama's children as political cannon fodder, we don't someone like you dragging it further down into the mud with your talk calling for an armed rebellion against the government.

Colin Powell Backs Obama, John McCain Loses It
The news story today:
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed President Barack Obama for a second term Thursday.John McCain didn't take the news too well, telling Fox News that the decorated soldier/former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had tarnished his legacy by endorsing Obama.
"You know, I voted for him in 2008 and I plan to stick with him in 2012, and I'll be voting for he and Vice President Joe Biden next month," he said on CBS' "This Morning."
Asked whether it was an endorsement, he said, "Yes."
Powell praised the president's handling of the economy and ending of the Iraq War.
"I think we ought to keep on the track we are on," he said.
Powell said he had the "utmost respect" for Mitt Romney, but criticized his tax plan.
He said Romney's foreign policy was a "moving target." "One day he has a certain strong view about staying in Afghanistan, but then on Monday night he agrees with the withdrawal. Same thing in Iraq. On every issue that was discussed on Monday night, Gov. Romney agreed with the president with some nuances. But this is quite a different set of foreign policy views than he had earlier in the campaign."
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) ripped Colin Powell for endorsing President Obama again, saying the former Secretary of State had “harmed” his legacy by doing so.Really? This coming from the man who picked an unprepared nitwit as his running mate four years ago, and had the campaign devolve into dog-whistling politics the last leg of the race? Please, Senator, you have no leg to stand on here.
“General Powell, you disappoint us and you have harmed your legacy even further by defending what is clearly the most feckless foreign policy in my lifetime,” McCain said Thursday on the Kilmeade and Friends radio program.

Big News in Ohio and Florida
And it isn't good news for the Romney/Ryan ticket.
Of course, when faced with damning numbers like this in key battleground states, it only makes sense to try and put the best spin you can on the latest numbers: deny, deny, deny!
On a more important note: Yesterday was National Voter Registration Day, and if you haven't yet: please, register to vote. I don't care who you vote for in the national election or what your views are. Just vote and let your voice be heard. Don't take this simple, yet powerful way of voicing your opinions on national, state, and local matters for granted.
A batch of new polls from two key battleground states produced some of the largest leads yet for President Barack Obama, drawing criticism from the campaign of Republican nominee Mitt Romney.Of course, we have six weeks left to go until Election Day and anything can happen in that timespan, but i'm certain this is the last place the Romney campaign wanted to be in. Instead of closing the gap and keeping the race as air tight as possible, this is looking similar to 1996 all over again, where Bubba handed Bob Dole a electoral ass-kicking.
In Ohio and Florida, the new surveys from The Washington Post and the polling partnership of CBS News, The New York Times and Quinnipiac University show Obama leading by margins approaching double-digits.
While the margins produced by these and other surveys vary, they collectively point to a consistent underlying trend: Big gains in enthusiasm among Democratic partisans have helped boost Obama since the party conventions.
In Florida, a state widely considered a must-win for Romney, results ranged from a whopping 9 point Obama lead (53 to 43 percent) on the new CBS/Times/Quinnipiac poll, to a 4 point Obama advantage on the Washington Post poll (51 to 47 percent), to a much narrower 1 point edge for Obama (48 to 47 percent) on a Tampa Bay Times/Miami Herald/Mason Dixon poll.
Of course, when faced with damning numbers like this in key battleground states, it only makes sense to try and put the best spin you can on the latest numbers: deny, deny, deny!
For the Romney campaign, Tuesday brought yet more bad news from the Buckeye state: a new Washington Post poll showed the Republican presidential nominee trailing President Barack Obama by eight points in this critical battleground state, with 52 percent of Ohio voters in favor of giving the incumbent another four years.Translation: they've seen the numbers and done the math, and their boy is in deep shit.
Before Mitt Romney's plane touched down at the Dayton airport today, two top aides were dispatched to the press cabin to put out possible fires the numbers might have sparked.
"The public polls are what the public polls are," Romney Political Director Rich Beeson told reporters. "I kind of hope the Obama campaign is basing their campaign on what the public polls say. We don’t. We have confidence in our data and our metrics."
What the Romney team’s data indicated about Ohio, Beeson wouldn't say. He argued that Romney was inside the margin of error here “by any stretch,” and dismissed the much-hyped Obama ground game in Ohio as activity confused with progress.
On a more important note: Yesterday was National Voter Registration Day, and if you haven't yet: please, register to vote. I don't care who you vote for in the national election or what your views are. Just vote and let your voice be heard. Democratic National Convention - Day 3

Tonight's the grand finale, and all eyes are on the President. How does Obama top what Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama delivers on the convention floor over the last 48 hrs? More importantly: what kind of crazy shit will Grampa Joe say next?
Edit by Jonathan (4:14 pm PT) - One of rock's biggest acts, the Foo Fighters, warming up for tonight's festivities.
8:09 CT The Count: John Kerry with one of the finest speeches of his life. The man reminds me of Missouri football in the 1970's When's he on he can beat anybody. When he's not he can lose to anybody. Tonight he was on. His best line: "Sarah Palin talks like she could see Russia from her window. Mitt Romney talks like he's only seen Russia from Rocky 4."Great stuff.
Edit by Jonathan (6:32 pm PT) - Finally, i'm done with the evening class. I should be home in time for the Big Speech.
9:10 CT The Count: Joe Biden had some Joe moments but did fine. Solid speech. I won't lie when he starts I hold my breath.
9:42 CT The Count: Come on Barack say watch you should have said 4 years ago. If you want to get on board and fix this thing get on board but if you don't get the fuck out of the way. You've fucked this thing up enough now let me fix it.
Piss off Bob. Re-elect Barack Obama

Democratic Convention Day 2.

You know the routine.
Finish this phrase...Let Detroit Go...
Edit by Jonathan (4;00 pm PT) -Tonight, we'll hear Sandra Fluke, Elizabeth Warren, and then Bubba himself. This could get tricky, flipping back and forth between the Cowboys vs. Giants.
Edit by Jonathan (4:20 pm PT) - It looks like the plans to close out the convention at Bank of America Stadium has been scrapped, due to heavy rainfall tonight and continuing all day tomorrow.
Edit by Jonathan (7:02 pm PT) - And here's Sandra Fluke.
Edit by Jonathan (7:25 pm PT) - The only thing missing from Fluke's speech was her dropping the mic. Ballsy and verbally brutal.
And here comes Bill!
Edit by Jonathan: ..................damn, Bubba!

Democratic Convention Day 1.
All thoughts go here from all of you great sane people and yes you to Ralph provided you can do better than you did yesterday.
4:55 CT: From The Count OK. I'll say it. When the Democratic party says "we make ending poverty a national priority" That falls on deaf ears to me. The Democratic party which I am a proud member of doesn't do near enough to claim they make "ending poverty a national priority.
I can almost read the mind of a RWNJ watching this video. "Lose weight fat asses I think I'll re-listen to Rush"
3:57 PT: From Jonathan - Sandra Fluke will be a speaker tonight, along with First Lady Michelle Obama. The keynote speaker will be Julian Castro, the Mayor from San Antonio, Texas and the first time a Latino delivers the keynote address to the DNC.
5:04 CT: Count: Great speech from Cory Booker is so far the highlight of early day 1. Lot's of let Detroit go bankrupt.
Hear comes Harry Reid!...Slowly.
Harry Reid the first to mention teabaggers. If they won't stand up to Rush or Grover Norquist what would make you think they would stand up for you? Now he's going after Mitt's Taxes. SOLID!
4:40 PT: From Jonathan - In non-DNC converge news...I meant to post this on Saturday, but I forgot, so here it is now: 4 minutes of pitch-perfect, biting satire from Jon Stewart on Clint Eatwood's improvised speech/standup routine.

8:56 CT From The Count: Deval Patrick with a powerful speech! The best line... "It's time for Democrats to grow a backbone and stand up for what we believe." Afuckingmen!
9:33 CT. From The Count: Julian Castro was fantastic. Up next is the first lady with the final speech of a strong first night. I am in the minority on this I thought Kal Penn was unfunny and unsuccessful. The only real #fail of the night.
10:11 CT: From The Count Very strong first night capped off with a great speech from the first lady. I'd give the entire night an A-. Great start,

They're Here! They're Queer! The Right Refuse to Get Used To It!
As we know, President Obama this week, made history this week by coming out of the closet in support of gay marriage. The asylum at Blogs for Victory.com didn't take the news too well, as you might expect, but more on that in a minute. Matt Margolis, the resident attack is livid that Dick Cheney, who came out in support for gay marriage, isn't being showered with praise from the media. Yet the article he linked to tells the story as to why Cheney isn't getting, as Margolis feels, the attention he deserves: Cheney came out in support for marriage equality.....in June of 2009, almost six months since he left office, whereas Obama was the first official in office to actually utter his support for this particular issue. Big difference there, Matt.
As I stated earlier, the mental patients in the asylum of a blog, didn't take the news too lightly...

America was founded on the Declaration of Independence. Its foundations lie under the respect of the laws of nature, and of natures God. Any medical doctor will tell you what the human reproductive system is for. Sodomy is not sex, it is deviant sexual behavior. It is not reproductive behavior; it is nothing more than selfish lust and is a huge indicator of sex addiction. Homosexuality is an abomination of the human body, and its reproductive system. An abomination is aberrant behavior, deviant sexual activity, and is often a part of a lifestyle that includes alcohol abuse, drug abuse and depression.
There is no protection for an imagined civil right to deviant behavior.
That was just one of the many comments you'll find that show their feelings on the news story which I'm not going to link, monstly because it's the lot of them using the Bible to justify their own prejudice, a pastime which has been well documented on this site for years now. The one question I have about this whole affair is why do they amass so much energy into raling against gays and lesbians getting married? What difference does it make if two men are married or two women?

Field of 64 Is Set, and A Message to David Cameron
President Obama brings British PM David Cameron to his first NCAA Tournament, and I just want to say, on behalf of all Americans, that we are deeply sorry you had to watch that terrible friggin' game between Mississippi Valley and Western Kentucky. Sure, the boys in red answered back from a 16-point deficit to play Kentucky tomorrow, but how it ended up was horrendous to watch: turnover after turnover, and a breakdown of MV's game plan is what propelled them to win. Prime Minister: don't let one shitty game prejudge what the NCAA Tournament is all about.
And for anyone who cares, here's the President's Bracket:
Having said that, the Field of 64 is set:
Thursday:
#16 Western Kentucky will play #1 Kentucky in the South Bracket and #14 BYU will face #3 Marquette.
Friday:
#16 Vermont goes up against #1 North Carolina and #13 South Florida does battle vs. #5 Temple.

Some things never change.
Today's nugget of right-wing insanity comes from Blogs for Victory.com. Yes, i'm going back to covering Noonan, Margolis, and the cesspool of deranged, foaming-at-the-mouth conservatives which make up the site. Mind you, this post and these comments are days old, as this hit piece was written last week, but since the latest character assassination spirited debate from the GOP has to do with birth control and whether or not Obama wants to wage a war on all faith, the post fits with what we're hearing on the cable news networks.
As most of the subject topics on B4V eventually veer into rambling conspiracy theories, bible-thumping, and the daily saloon brawl with moderate to liberal posters, I won't mention how Matt the Hack violates the 8th Commandment from Almighty God by saying the President's faith in Christ is not sincere in his eyes (that is another topic i'm going to tackle writing about over the weekend) and i'm going to cut to a debate on, what else - Obama's citizenship, or in the minds of "js03" and "neocon1" lack thereof.
Obama’s behavior yesterday is even more disturbing than Nixon’s. Nixon at least respected the judicial branch enough to have his attorneys show up in court and follow procedure[.] … Nixon acknowledged the authority of the judicial branch even while he fought it. Obama, on the other hand, essentially said yesterday that the judicial branch has no power over him. He ordered his attorneys to stay away from the hearing. He didn’t petition a higher court in a legitimate attempt to stay the hearing[.] … Rather than respecting the legal process, Obama went around the courts and tried to put political pressure directly on the Georgia Secretary of State. When that failed, he simply ignored the judicial branch completely.

at least nixon resigned before he was tossed on his arse…obie one should arrested and charged with treason against the US for usurping the office of POTUS…
the man may be sitting in the chair, but he isnt my president…the POTUS doesnt need to hide the truth…or commit fraud…or refuse to appear in court to prove he is eligible to be POTUS…the man himself is a fraud…not a president
ply
-
How so? The President has in no way committed treason. Why can’t conservatives discuss policies instead of attacking the president with totally bogus accusations? You are not a true American with such a narrow minded attitude. He sure is my president, and I am hoping he will be my president for a second term. Those running in the GOP are jokes. Newt wants to go to the moon, and I wish he and his home wrecker wife would do just that; poor Mitt just cannot seem to get his foot out of his mouth. I think his wife is lovely – but she certainly looked embarrassed and uncomfortable yesterday in one of The Donald’s casino’s while Mitt was being crown the king by Trump. I guess Trump’s trophy wife was too busy selling her junk on QVC to show up. What a joke the GOP has become.
I'm sure if "js03" ever got a hold of the president's birth certificate, or even used the Wiki to look up a bio on the early life of President Obama, i'm sure he'd find some way to twist it and out-crazy Glenn Beck in flinging shit at the wall to see what sticks. Also: I may have despised many of the policies of the last administration, but at the end of the day, Bush 43 was still my President, and I would have addressed him as such. A pity you can't do the same.
scummy
he has committed treason and like js03 he is NOT my president either, he is a FRAUD, a lying thieving usurper illegally occupying this position.
the sooner he is gone the better, as well as the pigs the Klintoons.
Psalm 109:8
the truth;
Yep, you read that right: "js03" thinks that based on the President's supposed "illegibility" that the two Supreme Court justices he appointed to the bench, and that the Senate confirmed afterwords, are invalid; as well as every person in his Cabinet - from Vice President Biden and Secretary of State Clinton on down, who were sworn in and again, confirmed by the Senate (with the exclusion of the Vice President) are invalid; with "neocon1" going further off the deep end believing that the President of the United States should not be, as "js03" stated, should be thrown in prison for the rest of his life, but should be executed.
2 supreme court justices are invalid…
every law given to him by congress is invalid
every government official appointed by him, and every act they directed, are invalid
every ambasador, and every treaty, appointed and signed by him, are void
the damage done by the usurpation of the office of POTUS is immeasurable, and a life in prison sentence is wholly justified in this case…as it is treason to usurp the constitution by fraudulently obtaining the office of POTUS
I would prefer to see a gallows and a rope, send him along with the other Hussein (sadam) in the same manner for treason.
I hope the CIA, the FBI, and any other federal agencies are keeping tabs on these two. BTW: the bloggers "js03" and "neocon1" may freely come over and defend their comments on this thread if they so choose, along with any other blogger from the site.

The State Of Georgia Rules In Favor Of Obama Against The Sam Sewell's Of the World
Barack Obama will be on the ballot in Georgia. Now somebody is going to have to read the ballot to Blackflon so he doesn't vote for Obama by mistake. Reading the ruling here
Credit our good friend Domenica Iacovone* for bringing this to our attention.
*Our "friend" Sam Sewell said he wouldn't trust anyone who called themselves "Domenica Iacovone" As Domenicapointed out she calls herself that because that is her name.

State of the Union Thread
Tonight is the 112th Address to the Congress and the Nation, so I, and with the help of The Count, shall live blog President Obama's speech. Join us, won't you?
Edit by Jonathan (5:34 PT): It seems that I shall be alone in blogging about the SOTU. Flipping back and forth between CNN and MSNBC's kickoff to the big event. A few things:
* Ever since Keith Olbermann left for Current, Rachel Maddow has been a surprisingly good moderator or head honcho for the network.Wolf Blitzer and his team is pretty good as well. Cannot go wrong with either network.
* Is there any reason why the news media has to announce that the President and the First Lady have left the White House? Do we expect the President of the wife to be late to the Capital?
Edit by Jonathan (5:44 PT): In comes Vice President Biden, House Minority Leader McConnell, and other senior members of the Senate.
Edit by Jonathan (5:55 PT): The Speaker has called the Session to order, and now we see Dr. Jill Biden taking her seat.
Edit by Jonathan (5:57 PT): In comes Gabrielle Giffords. Amazing round of applause, and She looks amazing.
Edit by Jonathan (5:59 PT): Now, the First Lady, and the President's cabinet.
Edit by Jonathan (6:05 PT): "Mr. Speaker...the President of the United States!"
Edit By The Count (9:20 CT) This brilliant rebuttal from the Republicans:

Edit by Jonathan (7:25 PT): "So it is with America. Each time I look at that flag, I’m reminded that our destiny is stitched together like those fifty stars and those thirteen stripes. No one built this country on their own. This Nation is great because we built it together. This Nation is great because we worked as a team. This Nation is great because we get each other’s backs. And if we hold fast to that truth, in this moment of trial, there is no challenge too great; no mission too hard. As long as we’re joined in common purpose, as long as we maintain our common resolve, our journey moves forward, our future is hopeful, and the state of our Union will always be strong."@RNCResearch RNC Research Obama's State of the Union = just more words. Yes Republicans most speeches are just words. However unlike the previous President at least Barack Obama used real ones.

Barack Obama...You ARE A Natural-Born Citizen!!
If you have never watched a minute of The Maury Povich Show, the daytime talk show boils down to one simple sentence: "You are the father!", or "You are not the father!". Almost every day, the people who come on Maury's show are women in a bad relationship, the men who treat their women like shit, live in a trailer park, don't have a job, and cheat around often, and the ugly whores who start fights with the girlfriend and the audience, and claim that the man is really in love with her and is carrying his child. Regardless of the outcome, you can count on a few things happening on that show:
* There will be fights between the girlfriend and the mistress.
* Maury will announce whether or not he is the father of said mistress.
* The girlfriend will either have enough smarts to break off the relationship and the whore will be with the cheating ex-boyfriend, or she will idiotically stay with his lying ass and beleive that he will change his ways and will never see that home-wrecker ever again.
* Everyone on that show will act like the ignorant, ridiculous caricatures we see on The Jerry Springer Show.
By now, you know that billionaire Donald Trump, has been in the news lately and has once again rung the bell on the Birther conspiracy - that Barack Obama was not born in the United States, therefore unqualified to act as President of the United States of America. Conservative figures like Michelle Bachman, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, and the other right-wing talking heads of the world have, for months, played with, or hinted in interviews, that they believe, or have suspicions, that the Birthers are on to something: that Barack Hussein Obama, is not who he says he is. It had gotten to the point where a poll asking Republican voters whether they believed the current President wasn't born in the United States, almost half of them - 47% of GOP voters to be exact - actually believed that he wasn't an American-born citizen.
Well, after months (and years) of debate, the results of this are in...Barack Obama......you are a natural-born citizen of the United States!!!
There you have it: the man was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961 to a white mother and a Kenyan father. Thank you, birthers for wasting two years of our time on this issue and thank you Donald Trump, for lowering the debate and reaching out to the lowest common denominator of people's deep-seeded prejudice in order to position yourself in Iowa in 2012. This whole episode was like a taping of the Maury show: you had a rabid, hot-tempered guest, the once-in-a-while honest and sympathetic figure, and an audience that couldn't believe the nonsense spewing from the batshit and clearly prejudiced guest who dragged this out to begin with.
But at the end of the day, those papers the President decided to show to put to bed the nonsense of his citizenship won't be enough for the Birthers. Case in point: Orly Taitz, the Queen of the Birthers, her exchange with Lawrence O' Donnell, and O' Donnell finally having heard enough of her malicious lies.
President Obama's birth certificate was never the real issue on the table. It was - and continues to be - his skin color. The Birthers cannot except a man of color as their Commander-In-Chief, or the fact many successful African-Americans have made huge strides in contributing to the continuing story of our nation's history. These are the people who are stuck in the Jim Crow-Era and miss the "good ol' days", like a wife misses her husband who's on a business trip cross country. Guys like Trump and Bachman may not be racist, but they are happily catering to the lowest common denominator in our country, which is much worse and more harmful to our society. It's time we moved on from this silly and stupid episode and turn our attention to more important matters, and put people like the Birthers and "The Donald" where they belong: back in the sandbox where they can continue to play pretend.
The move came as a surprise to the press corps, many of whom had not shown up for Wednesday's early-morning White House briefing. By the time word had spread that Obama would be making a 9:45 a.m. statement on the matter, however, the top anchors at all the networks had scurried into the briefing room.
Once there, they received a presidential scolding for their concern with "silliness." Obama began his five-minute statement with the complaint that he wouldn't be able to get the networks to break into their regularly scheduled programming for a speech on policy proposals.
"I know that there is going to be a segment of people for which no matter what we put out, this issue will not be put to rest," Obama said. "But I am speaking for the vast majority of the American people as well as for the press. We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We have better stuff to do. I have got better stuff to do. We have got big problems to solve."

Just come out and say it, already!
The video in which Pollster Frank Luntz asks the audience in De Moines, Iowa if they believe the President of the United States is a Muslim shouldn't surprise anyone who's heard this nonsense before, but listening to some of the responses the small audience give are just astounding.
Of all the comments made during the near-3 1/2 minute clip, the following comment pissed me off the most:
What utter BS!!! Obama has, many times, referred to his background, being born to a white mother and a black father from Kenya, how his mother and white grandparents raised him, and how his rise in the modern political landscape and said that nowhere else on earth is his story possible but in America. In almost every major speech, Obama has referred to America's defining moments - from beating Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan and emerging as the world's superpower, to Dr. King and the Civil Right Movement and the moon landing in '69, after JFK challenged the nation to put a man on the moon in a decade's time. How in the hell do you get off saying some incredible crap like that!?
And let's cut the "he's a Muslim", and "he sympathizes with Islam" catch-phrases, and get right down to the heart of the matter: you don't like the President because he's not the right skin color. Words like "Muslim sympathizer", "socialist" etc., are just code words for what these ignorant men and women really want to say aloud: I'm not comfortable with that n****r in the White House.

"I think he believes that America is at fault for all the world's problems. I think he doesn't see the good that America has done in the world."
