McCain's response:
Link
"Tonight, Americans witnessed a misleading speech that was so fundamentally at odds with the meager record of Barack Obama. When the temple comes down, the fireworks end, and the words are over, the facts remain: Senator Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year, and still voted against funds for American troops in harm's way. The fact remains: Barack Obama is still not ready to be President."
You can almost smell the load in the old man's depends.
Late Edit from Jonathan: ......and this was after McCain 'promised' to lay off the Democratic Nominee for tonight.
McCain's word doesn't mean shit.

That was, quite simply, the speech of a lifetime. He took every one of the GOP/McCain talking points and pulled them out from under them like a magician with his hands on a tablecloth, and with a complete take-no-prisoners attitude to boot.
And as for McCain's lame "congratulatory" ad....puh-leeze, fella, that doesn't remotely begin to cut it. The tinkly music in the background sounds like a baby's crib mobile and the subliminal intent is of the grownup patting the kid on the head. Pathetic way to try to steal the remotest echo of Barack's thunder on this landmark night.
The GOP can't be looking forward to Monday at ALL. And whoever McCain names tomorrow - er, Pawlenty WHO? - I can't imagine anybody giving a damn.
Extremely, extremely well done. I actually have hope that the right thing will happen in November now.
