Why Bristol Palin's Pregnancy Is An isue.

Link

By Paul Kane
ST. PAUL -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

My problem with this is not the daughter's "choice" - the prospective Veep's words - to continue forward with the pregnancy.

My problem is that while praising her own daughter's "choice," it is a "choice" that she would seek to remove from all other American daughters who face this scenario.

And it's about this prospective Veep's insistence that excluding any kind of meaningful sex education from schools is somehow going to reduce teen pregnancies.

I don't appreciate anybody interfering in how I raise my child. Particularly someone who would seek to impose their limits on me through some kind of arbitrarily assumed position of moral superiority.

What she attempts (apparently with little success) to instill in her own household and family is her business. But she seems to think it would be OK to put her church in my bedroom, or my daughter's bedroom. That's the policy issue, and it's a legitimate one.

One to which I must Just Say No.
