Like Being An Orphan Child

Geez...if listening to early Coldplay and Radiohead, Death Cab's last two albums, and some Devotchka inspired me write another poem....well then I need to listen to them more often, sans the depressing love/angst/tragedy ballad of a man who can't get over a lost love of years past. Anyway, here's the list of songs that inspired me to put thoughts to blog, and I hope you enjoy reading this piece from me, as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Death Cab For Cutie: "Your Heart Is An Empty Room", "Soul Meets Body", "Cath...", "Talking Bird", "The Ice Is Getting Thinner"
Coldplay: "Shiver", "Yellow", "Trouble", "Warning Sign"
Radiohead: "High and Dry", "Fake Plastic Trees"
Devotchka: "You Love Me", "The Clockwise Witnesses"
Colin Hay: "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You"
U2: "With Or Without You"

Lettin' go of the past
Lettin' go of months that seemed would last
You sayin' that you'll be there as my friend
As you walked away that day
Might as well have been the day my soul died.

Grasping the reality that there's no more me and you
It's like being an orphan child -
I have no place to return to.

You're off with a well-intentioned man
I see by the ring on your finger you had taken his hand
How wonderful for you to find a love so true
Me, I only have snapshots of love's past -
Days of sunshine with me and you.

Grasping the reality that there's no more me and you
It's like being an orphan child -
I have no place to return to.

You walking down that red-carpet line
You and your fiancee, eyes locked with love's burning desire
It reminds me on how our love could have sent
The whole damn world on fire.

Grasping the reality that there's no more me and you
It's like being an orphan child -
I have no place to return to.

Drag my feet to the bridge and closed my eyes
After writing to you my letter of goodbye
Dreaming of days of you and me that have stayed with me to my core -
Before the inevitable decent into nothing more.

Edit: Feel free to leave some comments on the poem and give me feedback.
