Outside of that, I also argue that our secularists are not just wrong to attempt this separation of faith and politics, but are also foolish. The plain fact of the matter is that our way of life is built upon a Judeo-Christian base. The fundamental concept that we, as individuals, are valuable and have endowed rights is a Judeo-Christian concept - cut our politics off from its wellsprings and it will dry up and die. At bottom, if you wish to live your life as an agnostic secularist, you desperately need the cooperation of believers who sustain the concepts which allow you to live as you do.
Mark, please quit with this smoke-and-mirrors that America will fall without your fundamentalist view of Judeo-Christian 'values.' We've been around for 232 years without a state religion and we've done fine, thank you very much. Let us remember that our ancestors originally came to this country to escape religious persecution from the Church.

Funny how this concept only comes into play for the Fundies if you have personally embraced their faith, their way of looking at the world, and their socio-political value system, isn't it?
You honestly can't have all of those in the same sentence as a test of basic fairness. If every individual is valuable and has rights, that is a given, not predicated on a belief system. If it's predicated on a belief system, then it is by definition exclusive of a great many individuals who are not valuable and who do not deserve rights.
So tell me again what the opening line of that Declaration was, eh? Something like...
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights

If Noonan and his group of assholes have thier way, there will be religious tests for everything in public life, et.
Noonan wants to exclude everyone who doesn't believe the way he does and he'll bend over backwards to put someone in power who will do just that.
It would be interesting to see the look on his face when he realizes that if he puts people like that into power, they could just as easily decide that they want to exclude HIM.
Then he can come and cry to me about christians being bullied.
