Mark Noonan sinks to a new low

If there's a few unwritten rules in politics, these are the rules that stick out like a sore thumb:

a.) you never attack the wife.

and b.) you never attack the wife!

Mark Noonan has broken those unwritten rules in politics, by attacking Michelle Obama. Yes, he's sunken that low.

And let me state for the record: I hated Bush and his policies, but I always left the wife, Laura Bush, alone. There are lines you don't cross, and the First Lady is one of them.

Most of the GOP threw this particular "unwritten rule" right out the window during the Clinton era. Are we really surprised they're carrying on now with the same complete lack of restraint or class?

They probably think that "decorum" is the trade name for the latest prescription painkiller they can get doped up on.

Also have to say: I don't think the ugliness has bottomed out yet, not by a long shot.

a tweeter named Dasani_01 who seems like a very nice person asked me how I could stand living where I live politically. it's an honest question. And truthfully it's not that bad. MOST Republicans I meet really are good people. And I seldom talk politics with people in person. The truth is Noonan and his followers and idiots like UltimatePatriot on twitter are on the absolute kook fringe of their very own political party. Most who are so vocal about how awful Liberals and Democrats are don't vote. I have a neighbor behind me who LOVES Ronnie Reagan and I'd like to tell you I don't like the guy but the truth is he is and his family is good people.

And most people I meet simply don't understand they are voting against their interest and don't want to believe it.

This is true. The Internet has done much good but it has also given the most extreme voices of every political, religious or other stripe you care to name a pretense of legitimacy. Just as on the Net something run out of someone's garage can look like a serious corporation, someone whose views wouldn't normally get as far as a soapbox suddenly have a following, and their words garner influence rather than shrugs.

This is what makes education so, so, SO important. We have to give the kids growing up in this environment the ability to think critically so that they can separate supported from unsupported opinion, and the ideological wheat from the chaff.
