Where Are These $100,000 Houses?

During the Vice Presidential Debate the brain dead Governor of Alaska opined that too many people that could only afford $100,000 houses were buying $300,000 houses. Tonight Chris Mathews repeated pretty much the same talking point using the $100,000 house. Where are these people finding $100,000 houses? I can tell you that in my housing market which damn sure isn't Jonathan's let alone Sergei's You can buy a very nice home for $250,000. You can buy a nice home for $150,000. In my neighborhood Houses go for between $120,000 and $160,000 dollars. Keep in mind I live east of the Omaha dividing line in a Middle class area surrounded on most sides by poorer areas. In other words Chris Mathews doesn't live in my kind of neighborhood. you can buy a $100,000 in Omaha. But what kind of home? Here is a home for sale for $65,000 that has 1,900 SQ feet...

The address is N. 48th Street. I hope you like Gun shots. Here is a home for sale for $90,000

Again the neighborhood is an issue.

this is what $100,000 Buys in Omaha again not San Diego not San Francisco...

Now it appears to be well taken care of but it's still north 48th street.

Here's a home for $101,000 in Benson better neighborhood still not great...

The point is if you are going to rip people for buying houses they couldn't afford don't talk about $100,000 houses. Unless you are just getting into the market in most cities $100,000 don't exist and those that do aren't worth buying.

Yes people are buying beyond their means. But for many Americans almost any home is beyond their means.

It's a bit better in Ottawa, Sergei - $100,000 might get you a bachelor apartment.
