You know, Count, in reviewing that clip, it reminds me of just how much Archie Bunker is truly the archetype to which today's classic wingnut aspires. Fearful of anybody who doesn't spring from his own background, ethnicity and education; determined to demonize all those people as oppressors hell-bent on bringing him down; and intent on maligning the reputation of historical figures like FDR in an attempt to rewrite history to suit himself and his world-view.
It seems to me it's a meme that could be useful among our generation, if not the rising one. "The GOP is the party of Archie Bunker." And if they want to own that? They're welcome to it.

Absolutely right. And it isn't just the Ranger Ralph 08 nutjobs of the world either. It's that crazy professor from Dayton Priscilla keeps monitoring.
Carol O'Connor was very liberal politically they say he was the exact opposite of Archie Bunker. maybe that's why his portrayal was so spot on.
