Meanwhile, we're back into the mid-70s, tops, and maybe some rain.

Maybe we're living by turns in parallel realities?

Try to stay cool, Count.

I kind of take the attitude that it's August and really we were due for it. Also It's August and in theory at least we should have a long (2 or 3 months) sustained period of extreme heat.

What get's to me is the dipshit weather folks we have here who are just so God damn happy that it's "finally" Going to be so hot you have to puke your guts out. Weather people are not the Count's favorite people. If they aren't jacking off over violent weather they are jacking off over extreme heat. Meanwhile a sunny 67 degree day is cause for great alarm.

shouldn't

Conservative tweeters over at #tcot now all have avatars shoeing Barack Obama's face made up as the joker. Oh they are such creative sons a bitches. Really if you're going to share a brain get one that works.

August in the Midwest is supposed to be miserable, but that doesn't mean that anybody has to be happy about it.

You couldn't pay me to be a meteorologist/weathercaster. It's one of those you-can't-win-for-losing occupations.

As for conservative tweeters, I feel safe in using the tried-and-true one-word descriptor. MORANS.

(Typo deliberate. Should any of said Morans want me to re-enlighten them I will be happy - nay, delirious - to oblige.)

For once I completely disagree with you. All I ask is they A. Tell me the forecast and not tell me how I feel about it.

B. Stop doing a happy dance when there might be a tornado in the area.

C. Don't take up 2 hours when game 5 of the NBA finals is on and there is a funnel cloud spotted in clusterfuck county. If people weren't watching their network they would have been off an hour and a half ago. And you know this because they are the ONLY station still on telling people to get in the basement for a tornado that is now 275 miles away.

As for not winning for losing? They are some of the ONLY people who win for losing. They have all of this Doppler 8000 or whatever and they are still wrong half the time. The only people I can think of who are wrong as often as they are and still get paid are football touts.

But, think about it...nobody ever believes their forecasts, even when they turn out to be right. So in that sense they're like Cassandra, doomed to prophesy but never to be believed.

I'd have more faith in weathercasters who said "Well, it might rain tomorrow, or it might not: really hard to predict right now, so be prepared for anything: all I can tell you for sure is that the temperature will be about XX and the humidity something like YY."

But, then, my favorite TV weatherman growing up was a guy who would occasionally guarantee his forecast, and then vow to tear (or TRY to tear) a phone book in half on air the following night if he was wrong.

I got to watch him try to tear up a LOT of phone books...

It's funny you say that.

We had a snow storm in October of 1997 that caused major damage because it came out of the blue after a fairly long streak of warm weather.

The forecast called for two inches of snow that night and we had a foot. All of the trees still had leaves and branches so you can imagine the sound that night. At midnight with the snow pounding the city they were still on saying no more than 2 inches. We had to have already had 5 with no end in site.

They explained it as one of those deals where Omaha was in the center of the storm and got dumped on when other surrounding areas got the light snow they had forecasted. For about ten years after that they wouldn't get specific on anything. Often saying we could get 2 inches to a foot.

Well, around here, dissing Environment Canada as an irrelevant source is almost a mantra. They were still saying "light snow" the night we got a foot and a half and the city was paralyzed.

We have a home weather station that ET Spouse has yet to install. Had one in Oregon, too. It was always a far more reliable resource than any mass-market effort.

Thank God. It's about time people began to pay for quality journalism -- NY Post and Fox News. God bless Rupert Murdoch. The only other stuff to read out there is that Socialist-Liberal Conspiracy Anti-Gun Free-Health-Care Crazy Stuff in the NY Times, Wash Post, LA Times and Chicago Trib -- all lies. Give me the Unbiased Rush Limbaugh View & kinky foldouts -- don't need a grade school education to understand it.

my comment:
I found the above at nypost.com comment section on the news that Murdoch is going to charge for ALL of his online "news" websites
