Edward "Ted" Kennedy 1931-2009

Known as the "liberal lion of the Senate," Kennedy championed health care reform, working wages and equal rights in his storied career. This one is getting to me. Like he was family. Actually many in my family's passing wouldn't hurt this much.

This really sucks. A great man, and a model progressive that Democrats need more than ever.

I agree, Count. I'm actually teary about this. It feels like he was one of the last sparks from a positive, transformative time in American history, that burned all the brighter in the shadow of his two brothers' untimely deaths. Nobody remaining in the Senate has anything near his stature, in past legacy or in current moral high ground.

Let us but hope his passing brings a moment when nonsense is beheld for what it is, and our legislators do something meaningful and right in service of the cause that meant so much to him.

No kidding. Spouse asked me what the blogosphere is saying, and I said I'm going nowhere near the Freepers for several days. I would blow a gasket.
