Clinton: I'm the Cracker Candidate

She might as well have said it:

"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview published Thursday. She cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

"There's a pattern emerging here,"
she said.

First: if what you say is true, that the rednecks won't vote for a black man, what in God's name makes you think, even for a minute, that they'll vote for you, a woman??

Second: Hillary Rodham Clinton, stop it. Read my lips: You. Have. Lost. Period. You're only making a fool of yourself, and you're losing more respect from me each time you resort to these kind of hit-below-the-belt comments. It's past time to swallow your pride and your ego and bow out gracefully, while you still have some respect left, and support the party in beating John McCain.

McCain has the white trash vote wrapped up anyway.

ET Spouse just commented that it's a sad outlook on American politics when a candidate has to resort to saying, essentially, "Look - all the less-well-educated voters are in my court!" as an apparent positive campaign argument.

It's a very odd argument. And one I personally wouldn't be making. It might make one think " If educated people are voting for Obama maybe I should be too"

It does make for an odd, sort of bald-faced appeal to the "lowest"-common-denominator. Kind of a "Vote for Me! I won't let smart people (who aren't Caucasian, BTW) run roughshod over you!"

Which begs the response, "Excuse me? You don't think I'm smart, Caucasian or not? WTF?"

I think it's at best a strategic stumble of major proportions, and at worst a game-ending racial/educational gaffe.

It's just baffling. What is she *thinking*, anyway? It's like she's self-whittling her base down to HS-only-grad white rural blue-collar voters who are predominantly older and female. And *that's* a foundation on which to build a coalition?

I don't get it. I don't think most of the electorate gets it, either.

Um Ralph it's time for your pills

Aw. Isn't Ralph cute when he pounds on the floor with his pudgy little fists, screeching in capital letters?

Someone pop a Barney episode in the DVD player for him so the grownups can talk in peace.

As we were discussing before we were so rudely interrupted...

I'm a bit troubled by the fact that "elitist" has become the hot-button word of this campaign. Seems to me they're applying it more to education than to money - there's more sniping about the "Harvard-educated Obamas" than "the very rich Obamas."

God forbid we have voters who are smart and have learned to analyze and think!

I wonder if Hillary went away, would Ralph go with her?

Anonymous said...

Probably. I have always suspect that Ralph has a serious thing for her.

Ralph has a serious thing for her

Now there's illustration inspiration if I ever heard it, as soon as I have numerous spare computer moments to rub together...

That's long been my theory ET. That Ralph's hatred of Hillary stems from the fact he is infatuated by her. Knowing he'll never have her he sooths his lust and broken dreams by insulting the one who torments him.

Either that or he is just flat out nuts. :)

Both maybe?

Does this mean that......
uhhh, never mind.
