You Know What? Fuck Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is just another cheep way to exploit our troops and veterans not honor them.

WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! How dare you deny it? We've put 4 ribbons that say it on the back of our SUV's, gave them a free meal at The Golden Corral and named not one but TWO holidays after them. And if they are a part of the unlucky 25% of Veterans who live downtown begging for money while what little benefits they had get cut by the government well that's really their own fault because we are the good ole US of A and dammit we loves our troops and we won't let you forget as we pass by 6 or 7 of them laying on the sidewalk on the way to the shopping center either.

No we don't. let's be honest we don't give a flying fuck about our troops. if we did we wouldn't send them off to some God forsaken fuck hole to fight some bullfuck war. If we loved our troops or at least the idea of becoming one we would enlist instead of putting a 89 cent sticker on the back of our car and sending some bullfuck care package. If we loved our troops we would line up Toby Kieth and beat the living piss out of that motherfucker. What for? For giving us one more God forsaken I Fuck The Flag anthem. For making a living lining his pockets with millions of dollars made off the lives of the young Men and Women doing a job that he doesn't see fit to do himself. Really if we aren't willing to find Toby Kieth (It's not tough to find him either, he's either at Lloyd Noble Center watching Oklahoma basketball or at Owen Field watching Oklahoma football) beat the fuck out of him rob him blind and give the money he has stolen from our troops to our troops...then we don't give a shit about our troops.

If we loved our troops we would demand to have them taken out of the bullfuck hellhole this very minute and maybe just maybe we will overt another national tragedy by doing so. Sure If we bring them home now they will have the usual benefits of an exiting
military career . Unknown diseases, babies born with birth defects, unemployment and alcoholism but maybe just maybe we haven't created the next Timothy McVeigh. there will be they will have the usual benefits of an exiting
military career . Unknown diseases, babies born with birth defects, unemployment and alcoholism but maybe just maybe we haven't created the next Timothy McVeigh. Yes if this bullfuck war goes on much longer I will guaran-fuck-tee you that there will be a veteran from this war who comes home and commits an act of domestic terrorism and dammit we will be shocked. SHOCKED. Nevermind that we created him/her and that we are all guilty of their act they will be put to death and we will cheer loud and clear how we love our troops.

If We Loved our troops we would do more than salute them with a bumper sticker, a bad song, two holidays and free lunch at The Golden Corral. We would support our troops when they came home as Veterans. Make sure they have food, shelter, clothes after all if they are fighting for me to have these things, and I keep hearing they are, and they don't have them themselves what the fuck are they fighting for again?

If We loved our troops we would demand a government that protects them, makes sure they aren't used as pawns in some half-assed personal vendetta or at the very least a government that actually looks after them and takes care of their needs while they are being used, and after they've been used. If that's too much to ask then we don't love our troops and masking the fact by giving them 2 bullshit holidays cheapens that fact now doesn't it?

Last Saturday afternoon I was watching a football game between Kansas and Nebraska being played by a bunch of 18-22 year old young men many whom fit the demographic that the military thrives on. there for the grace of God and the ability to play sport would go possibly hundreds of more victims of our bullshit support for our troops and veterans. Early in the game the sideline reporter Emily Jones mentioned that she was thrilled because the game was being broadcasted to our troops overseas. To which Dave Lapham the play-by-play man responded "Amen Emily if not for them we wouldn't be here enjoying this game." Now I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I am also no fool. My first immediate response when I heard this was " is this really what they are dying for? So I can watch this game?" If it is bring 'em back now because dammit it's not worth it. I seem to recall watching football long before this war started but if I am wrong and this things is about our freedom to watch this football game end this shit right now. Really their lives aren't worth Saddam's threat to Nebraska vs Kansas. After his asinine comment Dave Lapham showed he was just as sincere about his love for our troops as most of his audience. After declaring that "they were his hero" he said "actually Emily Jones is my hero. she's sick and she's here today. she's really taking one for the team". This folks is how we show our love for our troops and our veterans.

I have veterans in my family and the funny thing is none of them brag about it. Oh they'll talk about it and tell stories if you ask them but they don't go out of their way to relive their days in uniform. Why? Not because they hate their time in the service, in fact they are proud of it., but they know that to talk about the good is to remember the bad, both in the service and out of it. Funny thing. at one time almost all of them were Conservative...hardcore Fox News watching conservative. That's changed, G.W. Bush and his band of fuckwads changed that...forever. They know all to well that George W. Bush and his followers are nothing but a bunch of phony ass two bit punks who have sent thousands on to their deaths on a personal vendetta even though they themselves have never been close to joining the military in Their lives. Oh sure Bush and his merry band of testicle lickers have a flag tattooed on their ass, listen to Savage, know the words to proud to be an 'emerican, shout Semper Fi and never miss Hannity, but if somebody were to come up to them and yell BOO they would shit their britches something fierce. They, by their phony ass posturing and voting record have done more harm to our troops and veterans than any of us. And no amount of bumper magnets, free Golden Coral dinners and self ass clapping two days out 365 are going to change that.

Count,
Thanks for your honest and mostly spot-on assessment of Veterans Day. My father, who was a WWII vet, NEVER spoke of his experiences to me except for the time that my parents came to visit me at my base in '69 before I shipped overseas myself. I guess the whole environment and situation brought back a lot of memories for him.
It's also interesting that I and my friends who served also spoke very little of war and our experiences. Of course, that was before being a veteran became so trendy. I think a lot of us felt that military service was not necessarily something to be proud of, but rather something that we were forced to do (drafted) and that we survived, and that we were glad was over. I will, to this day, maintain that I hated every moment of my military service. It was a time that I ma neither proud of, nor do I feel that anyone owes me any gratitude.
To put things in perspective, on that day with my father, I joked that when I returned, at least I'd be able to celebrate Veterans Day with him. My dad then told me of the time that he and another soldier were patrolling through a small German town that they had just captured. Suddenly my dad's companion fell to the street, a sniper bullet through his head. My dad said that was what war was....totally random and senseless. One man gets to be a veteran; the other gets to be a casualty.
Sorry for the rant, Count.

Spot on, Count. Spot on. If we love them, and honor them, we should not be asking them to fight a war we were lied into committing.

Bring them home. Now.

i'm sick of this 'veterans' day also.. war is hell why should we celebrate it? why don't we try harder if it is hell? why don't we work our asses off to stop it if humanity is worth saving? nah they don't give a fuck. on a lighter note... on vet's day... i ran into this BIG ASS FAT HOG who i couldn't quite figure which WAR he served in.. because he sure as fuck wasn't ww2.. and he was not for sure as hell korean (they got a certain look sorry!) and vietnam? heh, he looked my age which means he may've been gulf... but that wasn't a war, that was a vacation. he could stand on his own.. he was very well fed! i mean VERY WELL FED and he looked like more so a pencil pusher than a vet. and he didn't even try to propagandize his cause.. he just said "remmemmer er vets" that was it and tried to hand me a half ass shitty fly fuck tiny plastic flower.. that was it!? he could see, stand.. i can't see well and standing i need a cane god dammit... he looks like he's getting benefits.. i can't because i'm not blind or crippled enuff yet ya know! PUH fuck that asshole an' everyone else who wants to be a vet... how about remember our raped civilians and dead children and blown up schools? hum? how about remember our widows and widowers of war? eh?

I am pretty sure this comment was sarcasm. of course I never said fuck vets. I said fuck the way we treat them then make up for it by pretending to care with car ribbons and a free meal 2 days out of the year.
