Spare us the Quayles!

It's already criminal that Arizona has elected Dan Quayle's son, Ben, to the House of Representatives. (Oh, Arizona, what the heck are you up to? I don't recognize the place in which I grew up, truly.) His father embodied the "useful idiot" concept for years, to the point where Dubya was once described, during his candidacy, as "Quayle, with a better watch." And who can forget the woeful mis-correction of the spelling of potato?

But this gushing op-ed lionizing Reagan on the basis of candy takes the proverbial cake.

When I was a child, President Ronald Reagan was the nice man who gave us jelly beans when we visited the White House.

I didn’t know then, but I know it now: The jelly beans were much more than a sweet treat that he gave out as gifts. They represented the uniqueness and greatness of America — each one different and special in its own way, but collectively they blended in harmony.

Yes, Banned & Dangerous readers. You're a jelly bean. The Great American Melting Pot is really just a candy shop, and you're one sugary lump among many. And Reagan, who set into motion so many policies that have proven so toxic for the US, this far down the line, was a Really Great Guy who Made Everybody Believe.

What rank BS.

But, furthermore, how scary it is that Ben Quayle is currently "a member of the Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Science, Space and Technology committees"?

I'm saddened, truly.

Aside from being a skilled orator and, at times, negotiating (this will come as a shock to the bomb-first, ask questions later branch of the GOP) with the Soviet Union, I don't understand the endless parade of conservatives who try and pain Ronald Reagan as the second coming of Jesus. Reagan, from what i've read and understood, is that his economic and social policies only served to line huge profits from Corporate America, and left everyone else to fend for themselves.

I put the second half of this in yellow to make it easier to read.

Joanthan the reason why Conservatives created a Reagan that never existed is because there have been 2 really good Republican Presidents. Lincoln and Roosevelt neither was a conservative in the late 20th early 21st century sense. So they had to create a hero.

Reagan was an actor (of sorts) - at least good enough to charm people into thinking he was a statesmsan.
