The View From My Ass

The even more pointless than normal edition

I can say with fairly great assurance that there will be almost nothing Newshounds related written here tonight. I am not going to rail against any moderator or drone on about how awful the trolls have been. I was going to touch on a private correspondence of a private correspondence that was sent to me concerning one of the moderators but now is not the time nor the place. So if your reading this on Banned and Dangerous at...http://rangerbobfriends.blogspot.com
and you just want to skip it all together I understand.

I just got done watching The Shootist and I have to say in addition to being John Wayne's last film it is in my humble opinion his best. Of course I am no fan of Wayne, I think he had little depth, and many if not most of his films sucked for shit ( Try Green Berets sometime) but I always liked The Shootist.

We are dog sitting my brothers Chihuahuas and finally got them to go to sleep. The two of them were whining which upset our dog Spud which upset our cats it was just one loud mess. I didn't know how to get my Brothers dogs to calm down so I finally just faked like I was putting a call through to CNN to talk to Lou Dobbs. That shut them up.

I was watching my DVD of the 1971 Orange Bowl between Nebraska and LSU today when i decided to pay attention to how many black players LSU had. Maybe I am wrong about this but I didn't see one. Not one. Now this wasn't the 50's or even the 60's this was 1971. The next year Nebraska played Alabama in the Orange Bowl and Alabama had 1 black player on their roster. After back to back substandard seasons Alabama figured out it couldn't win with an all white roster anymore and bit the bullet. There is of course a bullshit myth floated around, that even fostered two books, that Bear Bryant always wanted an integrated roster but was worried about what Alabama fans would do should he recruit Black players. The myth goes that he then brought in USC knowing they would kick Alabama's ass with all their black kids and the fans would see they needed to start
recruiting black players. There are so many holes in this myth that it would be the subject of another View From My Ass which I will write along with the Kelvin Sampson story. Why you should never hire a known cheat and then act shocked he's cheating after you hired him.

The latest James Bond comi...err...Graphic Novel was released in the states which I promptly read as soon as I received it. (Yeah I read comic books what of it?) Well James Bond Comics at least :) The strip was actually ran in The London Daily Times and in Scandinavia from 1958 until1983. The First several strips, Casino Royale through The Octopussy where just comic book adaptations of Ian Flemings work and then The times got permission to do their own original stories The Harpies being the first. There was also a comic strip adaption of Kingsley Amis' Bond book Colonel Sun. Anywho The latest book was called Shark Bait and it contained the early 80's strips The Xandu Connection, Shark Bait and Doomcrack. In my opinion this was the best book since Colonel Sun. I have enjoyed all of the books but they seemed to have been losing their luster with each one being not quite as good as the one before it. However all three stories in Shark Bait are entertaining and three stories go well over a 100 strips which means there is more room to flesh out a good story. The shortness of the stories in the last few books brought the quality down. One thing I noticed when I read the back of the book. The price.

United States $19.95
Canada $22.95

For the book before Deathwing which came out in July 2007 the price was...

United States $19.95
Canada $24.95

And the book before that The Phoenix Project which came out in late 2006 the price was...
United States $19.95
Canada $27.95

It's a good thing that the books, along with The Bush regime are almost finished because soon the Price will be United States $27.95
Canada $19.95

The ever weaker dollar one more reason no to vote for John W. McBush in November.

Completely Random thoughts

I didn't write about the Super Bowl this year but as I have said I thought it was a GREAT game. Probably the best Super Bowl ever and way better than the last two years shitfests.

Why does ESPN continue to give us Mike Patrick and Duke Vitale for Duke games? OK they want to blow Coach K into the middle of next week we get the point already.

I am not getting into the Gun debate here after yet another school shooting but I will NEVER understand how more guns would mean less gun violence.

While life is a crap shoot and none of us know just when we are going to die I do believe there are things that each of can do to pro long our lives and fight off aging. of course I am doing none of those things which probably explains why I feel so old at the ripe old age of 33.

Anyway that's about it. Pretty poor I know but next time I'll try to do better.

Until Then

Don't feel bad bro.

I read comics too. I've got a nice little collection stored away for my kid. Might even be enough to put him through college, lol.

Oh,and re: the whole gun debate. I don't think more guns are the answer either. I do feel that education and a solid home would make a big difference in violent crime though.

I'm with you bro. It was a tragedy.

I am not going to get in to specifics about who sent me the pm or what mod this person was talking about because that would be wrong but come when the time is right (donation drive time) I will touch upon it as best I can. Really it's nothing new.

I believe you have the right of it bro.

It's not important until it's important.
