Barbour Pardons Convicted Murdrers

If you're a Governor of a state and you're on your way out, what do you do? For outgoing Governor of Mississippi Haley Barbour, you pardon men who were convicted of murder. Really.

Gov. Haley Barbour's going-away present for Mississippi is to put a trio of convicted murderers back out on our streets, including two more who brutally murdered the women in their lives.
Sunday, Barbour pardoned David Glenn Gatlin. In 1993, Gatlin murdered his estranged wife, Tammy Ellis Gatlin, reportedly shooting her while she was holding their 2-month-old infant. He then shot Randy Walker, who survived. A Rankin County judge sentenced Gatlin to life in prison for murder, plus additional time for aggravated assault and burglary in 1994.

The Associated Press is reporting that he has also pardoned Anthony McCray, convicted in 2001 of killing his wife.

The Gatlin and McCray pardons raise Barbour's release record for domestic killers--men who have murdered current or former wives and girlfriends--to six. A Jackson Free Press investigation in July 2008 revealed that Barbour granted relief to five killers that year, four of whom killed women.
I understand that governors have the power to wave pardon on anyone they choose, but the fact he used that power to set convicted murderers free is ghoulish and unfathomable for any acting Governor or individual holding public office to sign off on.

Oh, Poor, Persecuted Herman Cain....

So, in my travels this evening through the Series of Tubes, I happened upon this from our old friend Jeremiah...
Mr. Cain had a lot of promise, and was leading in the polls early on in his campaign, but as always, Democrats in their greed, desire for power and deceitful ways found someone they could pay to tell lies about him, and destroy his candidacy for the Presidency....It's the Liberal Democrat way, folks, they don't know any other way to win than to belittle, lie, cheat, and steal from and to the American people to get their way...
Really, Jer? REALLY? After a blogging hiatus on your part of almost six months, you choose to throw your hat in the ring for Mr. Pizza? Cheering him on in his quixotic quest to transcend the many allegations surfacing against him? Where is your evidence that these are ginned-up "Liberal" plots? Why should not these individuals choose to come forward now, at a meaningful time, to share their evidence? Had I been a victim of the same behavior, I would certainly choose NOW to step up and say so in a broad public forum, absent other relief. And as for greed, desire for power, and deceit...I'm pretty sure that pursuit of same is reasonably nonpartisan. Plenty of evidence for that is available on both sides of the aisle. Convince me I'm wrong. I'm waiting.

And as for the statement that Cain was leading "early on" in the campaign...oh, please. Nobody was buzzing about him until a handful of weeks ago, and now he's old news. Deservedly so. The guy hasn't a clue, any more than most of the GOP field have. You're all scrambling so as to avoid having to anoint a reasonable, vaguely rational individual like Romney, preferring instead to christen some wacko wingnut-panderer like the likes of Bachmann or Perry to carry your standard.

Good luck with that.

There's Actually Nothing To Add...

...except that I don't think the author of the below post at Fundies Say The Darndest Things is going to the Build-A-Bear Workshop any time soon. Such new heights (or, perhaps, lows) of paranoid idiocy!

- - - - - - - - - -
A couple had a one-eyed stuffed large frog named “Max”. After some period of time they began to talk about him as if he were a family member. Max sat on a bookcase and eventually the couple “noticed his eye” seemed to be looking at them. God revealed the demonic properties of Max, he was trashed and the curses broken that demons had put on the frog.

There are recorded cases where frightened children had terrifying nightmares and upon checking their room it was discovered the child had dolls and stuffed animals in the room. When these items were removed there came a calm and peace to the child and his bedroom. One very demonic item should never be in any child's bedroom or nursery - the "Dream Catcher". Always a deadly curse.

A serious issue with dolls is that many times the child develops a “relationship” with the doll, teddy bear or stuffed animal. The doll or animal becomes a playmate to the child. Some deliverance cases revealed that children actually talking to their dolls and some dolls talking back to the child ( talking back was the demon in the doll ). Look at the word IDOL and you can see the letters spelling dol. Relationships are built between people, not with dolls, puppets or stuffed animals.

I hope there's a place in hell for this woman.

I am not one to wish ill on anyone, no matter how shitty someone is. Plus, Karma, as Kerri keeps telling me, always comes back to bite them in the ass, so why bother being upset and pissed off at that one person? There are exceptions to the rule, though: Dick Cheney, Jesse Helms and Pat Robertson are just three of the people i'm not going to shed any sympathy for when they croak, and Debbie Schlussel now joins this list, for her lack of empathy and cruelty towards the horrific ordeals of Laura Logan, the correspondent for CBS News who was separated from her crew during the protests in Egypt and was sexually assaulted before Egyptian women and 20 Egyptian soldiers rescued her.

Let me not mince words here, and say exactly how I feel: Ms. Schlussel, fuck you, you horrible, rotten, heartless woman.

Edit From The Count: Ellen on Newshounds has also commented on the reaction from some conservatives on this tragedy.

Bush Institute Announces First Initiative...and it's a Whopper!

Via Think Progress...

The first major initiative of the new George W. Bush Institute will be to create a training program that will provide more qualified principals to the nation’s public schools, officials announced Wednesday.

The institute, which will be based at Southern Methodist University, is launching the Alliance to Reform Education Leadership with a pilot program that includes school districts in Fort Worth, Dallas, Plano, Denver, St. Louis and Indianapolis. The goal of the program is to train half of the nation’s public school principals in the next decade.

OK. Number One, when exactly did Dumbya become such a big fan of public schools? This is the home-school and voucher crowd. As some of the comments at TP suggest, maybe this is a way to make sure that public schools fail. His Midas touch gave that extra-special gift to most every other program that came anywhere near him, after all.

Number Two, who is going to give any credence to a program in which 50% of the test cases are in Texas, land of revisionist textbooks and maybe-we'll-secede tropes? Yes, sirree, that's the model we need for the educators and administrators of tomorrow!

Number Three, why on earth would school districts and their staffs willingly fall in line for this bilge? Here's a hint for you, Dumbya. Educators don't like you. They remember the defunding effort you mounted. They know what garbage your No Child Left Behind - more like No Teacher Left Standing - nonsense was, and how it's hamstrung their ability to do much more than tread arbitrary water, let alone, you know, educate. Pack up your Fuller Brush bag and skedaddle. Nobody wants this.

And, finally, there's already a program for training principals and others involved in the public education system. It's called the degrees they earned at reputable universities, and the continuing re-certification and in-service training their contracts usually require. From people who have these things called "qualifications." Not your grandiose plan, Dumbya. Fed, no doubt, by the yes-men at the Washington Speakers Bureau who trot you out for motivational speeches to friendly audiences and forever reassure you how loved you are and what priceless pearls of wisdom you impart.

So, tell you what, Dumbya. Here's a better idea. You remember those "faith-based" initiatives you were so enamored of? Stick with that. You stay at home with Barney at your side and Laura avoiding you as much as possible, and you pray all those kids smarter and better behaved. It's much less work for you, and I guarantee the rest of us will all be much happier.

(By the way, originally I was saying "Dubya," and Blogger's spell-checker didn't care for that. But it's fine with "Dumbya." Kind of telling, eh?)

What the hell?

It's bad enough that Kanye West is a brilliant, but ego-centric jackass, now he's selling out to collaborate with Justin Bieber!?

Justin Bieber has reached a new milestone. The 16-year-old singer from Canada has been mobbed by fans at malls, achieved the most YouTube video streams, and scored No. 1 on the charts. But now, he has officially hit a hip hop plateau, recording with the legendary Wu Tang Clan rapper Raekwon and Kanye West.

The Kanye-produced remix of Bieber's "Runaway Love," featuring rap verses from Raekwon and Kanye, was released Monday, and includes a surprise.

The revamped track incorporates a sample of the classic 1993 Wu-Tang Clan song "Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta F*** Wit."

What the hell happened to the music industry?? We had talents like Dylan, the Beatles, Public Enemy, Ray Charles, etc. How did they get to catering to the lowerst common denominator?

Um...why??

In today's WTF!? segment: An American boy returns from North Korea. No, this kid wasn't held hostage by the dictitorial government...he went on an outreach program.

Jonathan Lee returned Thursday from an eight-day visit to the reclusive country during which he was taken on a tour of the DMZ. A hoped-for meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il did not materialize, although Lee said the officials forwarded to Kim a letter from him.

"On this trip, I discovered that both sides want reunification and that Korea is one, so I see hope on the Korean peninsula," Lee, who made the visit with his parents, Kyoung and Melissa Lee, told The Associated Press.

Impoverished North Korea is one of the most isolated countries in the world and its hard-line communist regime is under United Nations sanctions for launching missiles and refusing to comply with nuclear weapons inspections. Since the 1950-53 Korean War ended with a cease-fire and not an armistice, the U.S., South Korea and North Korea remain technically at war.

Lee, of Ridgeland, Mississippi, said the officials told him his proposed children's forest was dependent on North Korea first signing a peace treaty with the United States to formally end the war — a longstanding demand of Pyongyang's.

Who the fuck would want to visit North Korea and request an interview with Kim Jong Il? I'm all for outreach programs to understand other cultures and see other cultures in different locations, but North Korea woudn't be at the top of my list of places to see while i'm alive.

Someone Crazier Than Ralph or Early

OK, I have just about decided that Ralph is really performance art, and the recently-banned early2it is just a kind of deluded coot. This guy, honed in on from Fundies Say the Darndest Things, is a prize-winner who tops them both for incoherence and bizarre "thought." The whole thing is here but I offer a tidbit below to whet your appetite. Like our pal Jer and many a winger, he can't quite figure out whether he's angrier at gays or atheists, but he knows it's all one vast conspiracy to deny him his birthright of power and glory.
AGAIN=atheists are nothing more than disgruntled homosexuals- if by small chance you are a heterosexual atheist this is simply because you were brainwashed by the homosexuals as all humans are a simple gullible monkey creature without knowledge of our infinite souls and guidance by god….Homosexuals are nothing more than abused children which made by god TO MIRROR the disgust in so called normal civilized behavior of sex lusting monkey people of the earth- everyone repent
All this "monkey people" stuff is a bit disconcerting. To the point of obsession, really. Do you think he's acquainted with Neal Horsley, or with Neal's fabled mule?

Uh, no.

Who knew there were commandments on sexual intercourse with one's partner? Most of the advice sounds great, until they got to commandment no.5:

Thou shalt find his P-spot

The majority of women and men are aware about what is known as G-spot of a woman however, most of them don’t know much about male P-spot. Men do have a P-spot, which is located next to urethra and prostate. It may be difficult for women to locate the P-spot of their male partners. You can do it by putting your finger in his anus and moving it around the rectal wall. If you locate a walnut sized object, it is the much touted pleasurable zone known as P-spot..By massaging it slowly, you can make your man go wild with sexual pleasure.

Ladies, I can't stress this enough: we want to make sweet love to you, not feel like we're taking a prostate exam.

This is strangely cool

The porno industry are now taking current and beloved TV show and making them into parodies. No joke. So far, they've done 30 Rock, Married with Children, Bewitched, WKRP in Cincinatti, The Brady Bunch, to name a few. The best part? The trailers (the safe ones at least) are on You Tube. Suprisingly enough, a few of them are acually quite funny.

Late Edit by Jonathan: I have decided to take the videos down and just provide the link instead. Some of these "safe" trailers do get a bit raunchy, so if that does offend you, stay away.

Girls, please don't do this to yourself!

This is, perhaps, the strangest thing I will hear in the month of March: women adding tiny beaded crystals to spruce up the vagina. No, I am not making this up.

Vajazzling is a burgeoning beauty treatment, popular with celebs and kinky Martha Stewart-ites alike, that involves ladies bedazzling their freshly waxed lady parts just as they would their neato neckerchiefs or fancy fannypacks – with tiny, magical crystals.

So women aren’t just obsessively coiffing their “areas” to look like pre-teen Barbies – they’re now glue-sticking Barbie’s earrings down below, too?

What the hell? If you really want to impress us "down there" then just keep it odor-free, neat, and tidy. Trim it if you want; going bald is a plus in my book. Just don't bling-out your lady parts. If there are two things that don't need the sparkle treatment, its blood-sucking vampires (I'm talking to you, Edward Cullen!) and a woman's privates.
