If a presidential candidate claimed that his view on an issue drew its power from the Sermon on the Mount, which was delivered by no less an authority than Jesus Christ? What if that view contradicted 2,000 years of church moral teaching? Wouldn't this be a major news story?

I see your point on the bias. The thing of the day here is to see through it and get to the central issue at hand.
I'll have to check my references, but it is my understanding that the pastor asked Obama about his stance on homo-sexual union and this was Obama's response.
He also made a statement with which I agree "I don't think it [a same-sex union] should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state,"
It's the "Sermon on the Mount" comment that raises a question in my mind.
I agree that Obama can think on his feet. Facing hostile audiences is a part of the job description.
None the less, the fact that Obama chooses to personally dash and over ride 2000 years of a doctrine that he ostensibly follows raises a doubt as to his sincerity as a Christian.
Additionally, he has been able to convince a significant percentage of liberal progressives, who generally have disdain for Christianity, that suddenly being a Christian is OK.
That's not to mention non-Christians
Do I think he is accomplished at public speaking and rhetoric...of course.
Is there a valid question of his sincerity and integrity..yes.
Whether Obama a Muslim or not I have no idea. Only Obama can truly answer that.
However, judging from his behavior and penchant to say what fits the situation, this supports a prima facie case into Obama's apparent proclivity to misrepresent upon matters which he claims to be his deepest beliefs.
A disqualifying factor for the presidency.
Obvious and agreed.
Not withstanding that, he chooses to alter his rhetoric to fit different groups about how he views his deep personal beliefs.
This particular example of Obama's rhetoric seems to follow his pattern.
The approach is basically the same, yet the rhetoric is altered...case in point, "The Sermon on the Mount"

Joshua, I think it's a lack of dignity and yes other than for the comedy they provide they are useless.
Well,intially I think they tried to make a point. After that they found they liked getting beat down by their intellectual superiors,and decided to hang around.
